GRAI research finds online betting accounts lead many users to other gambling

Regulation

Source: GRAI (Ireland)

Research commissioned by Ireland’s Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) and conducted by the ESRI found that nearly four in ten people who opened online accounts to bet on horses or sport later tried other forms of gambling. The survey of 1,000 gamblers also found that 26% of online gamblers said they lost “a lot” in their most recent session, compared with 17% of in-person gamblers.

The findings give GRAI evidence on cross-product gambling and reported losses as it develops Ireland’s regulatory framework.
