Ghana removes betting taxes as iGaming participation grows

Regulation

Ghana removed the 10% withholding tax on betting and lottery winnings and abolished the 1% Electronic Transfer Levy in 2025, according to Gaming Commission of Ghana deputy chief executive Lamtiig Apanga. Apanga said participation has increased since the changes and that the reforms could attract investors; the report also cites estimates that mobile devices account for about 95% of iGaming activity and young people make up roughly 57% of the population.

Ghana’s tax changes and reported participation increase may inform operators’ and investors’ assessments of the market.
