Enforcement & compliance

Gangwon Provincial Police confirmed on 5 June that they were investigating South Korean users of Polymarket over suspected illegal gambling, following a referral from National Police Agency headquarters. The investigation covers users across the country; under South Korean law, convictions could carry fines of up to KRW10 million, the report said.

The investigation puts users of prediction markets under scrutiny under South Korea’s restrictions on betting platforms.
