Former Bulgarian regulator warns against excessive gambling rules
Former Bulgarian gambling regulator Aleksandar Popov said recent reforms were driven partly by revenue-raising aims, according to a report. He estimated venue restrictions could affect roughly two-thirds of existing gaming halls and said advertising limits had shifted operator spending towards digital acquisition, affiliates and remaining legal formats. Popov called for stronger frameworks while warning that poorly designed rules could strengthen the illegal market.
His assessment identifies potential effects of Bulgaria’s advertising and venue restrictions for operators and policymakers.
