Reportedly, Spain will introduce payment ownership checks for online gambling under a decree taking effect on 28 October 2026. Existing customers will have six months to complete verification and cannot withdraw winnings before completing it. Operators will have to close accounts that remain unverified after the transition period.
Spain has introduced fresh anti-money laundering requirements for the online gambling sector. Operators must establish that the person who owns the payment method is the same individual registered on the gambling account before deposits and withdrawals are processed. The changes were approved through Royal Decree 813/2026, which was published in the state gazette (BOE) on October 10 and amends the regulations supporting "Law 10/2010 on the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing". The decree takes effect on October 28 2026, with individual obligations following separate implementation timelines.
