European Casino Association urges Europol role in tackling €91.6bn illegal market

Regulation

The European Casino Association called for illegal online gambling to become a priority in Europol’s mandate at a European Parliament roundtable. Research presented by the association estimates the illegal market targeting EU consumers reached €91.6bn last year, up about 14%, and cost member states around €22.9bn in tax revenue.

A stronger Europol role could affect cross-border enforcement against unlicensed gambling operators targeting EU consumers.
