EUIPO invalidates Sportingbet mark for gambling-related services

Regulation

The EU Intellectual Property Office’s Cancellation Division partially invalidated Entain’s Sportingbet trademark, ruling that the mark lacked distinctiveness for betting and gambling-related goods and services. Entain said the decision does not affect its use of the brand, disputed the ruling and said it expects to appeal; the decision is not final.

The partial invalidation weakens trademark protection for gambling-related services, but Entain says it can keep using the brand and expects to appeal.

End-of-day close Entain (ENT), GBp, to 3 August 2026
