In brief

  • Cipriani Group plans to open the Locanda casino in La Barra in December 2026.
  • The casino is to admit hotel guests and adult members of the public.
  • The Punta del Este resort and casino opening has been postponed to October 2027.

Cipriani Group announced that the Locanda casino in La Barra, Uruguay, would begin operating in December 2026. The announcement was made on Friday 30 October, at the presentation of the new season at Locanda. Locanda is located in the former Mantra hotel.

Company representatives told local media that the casino will admit hotel guests and the general public, with entry limited to adults. It will reportedly open from 12:00 to 4:00 on Sunday to Thursday initially. At weekends it could reportedly extend to 6:00 and, depending on demand, even operate around the clock.

Locanda also houses the Academia Internacional de Hospitalidad y Juego de Lujo, which trains staff for gaming operations and for the future Cipriani complex in Punta del Este. Marcelo Silva Maci, general manager of Cipriani Resort Residences & Casino, described the venue as a training casino. He said more than 150 people received intensive training over four months to prepare for work at the future resort. The Locanda casino will let students finish their training in a working environment, with equipment and technology similar to that planned for the San Rafael project.

Cipriani Group confirmed that the opening of the Cipriani Resort, Residences & Casino in Punta del Este has been postponed to October 2027, ahead of the 2027-2028 season. The delay stems from accumulated setbacks in construction, which made the previous schedule unachievable. That earlier schedule had provided for the casino to open in December 2026. Works on the project began in January 2023. The casino at the resort is to have more than 300 gaming stations.

Locanda reopened on 30 October after a renovation that added new facilities and services.
