Chile’s executive granted the online betting bill its highest legislative urgency on 7 May, requiring the Senate to discuss it within 15 days, according to reports. The proposal would establish licensing, tax, compliance and enforcement rules; it remains under legislative consideration.

Chile’s Supreme Court overturned an appeals court ruling that had treated an order to block online betting sites as fulfilled, reopening proceedings against telecommunications companies. It said the blocking order remained incomplete and sent the case back to the Santiago Court of Appeals to take further steps, including addressing mirror sites.
Chile’s Internal Revenue Service (SII) defended applying VAT to online betting platforms before the Senate’s Economy Commission and estimated the first payment could exceed USD 100 million. The SII said 39 platforms are registered under a special regime and are due to make their first quarterly payment in October 2026; 10 others were brought into a withholding mechanism. The agency said tax collection does not determine whether the activity is lawful.
Chile's Subsecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) instructed six internet providers to block 42 betting sites within 48 hours, following Supreme Court and Santiago Court of Appeals rulings. The list came from the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego, and providers must report completion to the court and Subtel.
Chile's Subtel submitted three technical options to the Santiago Court of Appeals for blocking unauthorised online betting platforms. It assessed deep packet inspection, server-name indication filtering and DNS blocking, and said DNS was the least invasive and most proportionate option; the court will decide whether to adopt a mechanism.
The Court of Appeals of Santiago asked Chile’s Subtel on 22 May to explain technical methods for blocking online gambling websites. The request follows a dispute brought by Lotería de Concepción against six internet providers; Subtel has said it could not effectively enforce a 2024 Supreme Court blocking order after operators changed domains.
