CFTC opens prediction-market rulemaking consultation and issues exchange guidance
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission opened a consultation on prediction-market rules on 12 March and issued guidance for exchanges offering event contracts. CFTC chairman Mike Selig said the actions begin a broader policy effort; the agency said the process will first gather views before drafting formal rules. The consultation will accept comments for 45 days.
Prediction-market exchanges face potential new requirements on contract listings, surveillance and sports-market oversight.
