CFTC intervenes in Rhode Island case over prediction market jurisdiction
The CFTC filed a motion in the US District Court for the District of Rhode Island seeking to stop state officials from applying gambling laws to CFTC-registered prediction markets. The commission said event contracts fall within its exclusive remit as commodity derivatives; the filing followed a lawsuit by Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha against Kalshi and Polymarket.
The case could affect whether prediction-market operators face state gambling-law enforcement in Rhode Island.
