Caixa Econômica Federal reportedly transferred R$12.207 billion through Loterias Caixa to social sectors in Brazil during 2025. The total included R$10.177 billion in direct allocations and R$2.030 billion in income tax on prizes, with social security receiving the largest share of direct transfers.
The reported allocations show how lottery proceeds are distributed across public services and other beneficiaries.

Caixa Econômica Federal organised a three-day delegation to Montevideo from 24 to 26 September to examine Uruguay’s betting model, according to the report. The visit took place as Brazil’s provisional measure banning betting platforms and online casinos was published; the delegation included three senior Caixa representatives.
Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) said it will include a review of rules for Caixa-operated lotteries in its 2026–2027 regulatory agenda. The review will allow formal consideration of an association proposal to replace printed Federal Lottery tickets with electronic records, but the SPA has not endorsed the proposal or set a completion date.
Caixa Econômica Federal said it would suspend sales of Federal Lottery tickets in Brazil during July 2026. The bank said scheduled draws would continue and ticket sales would resume in August 2026. The report also reported that plans to offer the product through the TFL terminal had been dropped after technical difficulties.
Caixa Econômica Federal filed an amicus curiae submission in Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court case ADPF 1212, contesting municipal lottery systems, according to the report. The case, brought by the Solidariedade party, challenges laws in 13 municipalities; it argues municipalities lack authority to establish lotteries and seeks a ruling against the laws. A preliminary injunction issued in December 2025 suspended municipal lottery and sports-betting operations nationwide.
Caixa Econômica Federal says 980 Mega-Sena bets have won more than R$1 million since the lottery launched in 1996. The lottery marked 30 years in March 2026, with R$115.2 billion in activity and R$43.8 billion paid in prizes over that period. Caixa plans a special R$300 million draw on 24 May.
