Brazilian justice ministry weighs new legislation to tax betting
Brazilian Justice Minister Wellington César Lima e Silva said on 25 February that his ministry was considering supporting new legislative proposals to fund action against organised crime, after the Chamber of Deputies rejected a proposed betting tax. One option is a standalone bill; the minister did not detail the other two. The rejected proposal included a temporary 15% CIDE-Bets levy projected to raise up to R$30 billion a year.
A new bill could revive a proposed betting levy after its removal from the anti-crime legislation.
