Brazil’s justice ministry classifies betting ban documents as secret for five years
Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security classified documents underlying Provisional Measure 1,394/2026 as secret for five years. The measure prohibits online betting activity and advertising in Brazil; the ministry cited risks to public safety and financial stability, while the presidential chief of staff separately invoked lawyer-client confidentiality to deny access. Betting-industry executive Fellipe Fraga expressed concern about the secrecy.
The secrecy limits public access to the government’s stated basis for a measure prohibiting online betting in Brazil.
