Brazilian government-backed amendment removes betting-advertising limits

Regulation

Brazil’s Justice Ministry confirmed that an official drafted a 2023 amendment removing proposed restrictions on when and where online betting adverts could appear, according to the report. Senator Jorge Kajuru submitted the amendment, which Congress approved in December 2023; it replaced the restrictions with a general ban on targeting minors. Critics said the change weakened protections for young people.

The amendment shapes where betting operators can advertise under Brazil’s current legislation.
