Brazilian footballers obtain injunctions over betting platforms’ use of their images

Regulation

Four professional footballers obtained injunctions barring betting companies from using their names and images on sports-betting platforms, the report says. The decisions involved Verabet, Cassino Bet, bet365 and Betano, and concerned individual markets such as a player to score or receive a yellow card. Lawyer Marcelo Robalinho said the actions seek to prevent unauthorised use of players’ identities and cited threats from bettors as a concern.

The injunctions may restrict named operators’ use of player identities in individual betting markets.
