Brazilian Finance Ministry sets 24-hour transaction-blocking rule for illegal betting

Regulation

Brazil’s Ministry of Finance issued Ordinance No. 17.66 on 17 June 2026, setting procedures for joint tax liability involving financial and payment service providers that facilitate unauthorised sports betting. After receiving formal notice from federal authorities, providers must block further transactions within 24 hours or may become jointly liable for taxes linked to the activity.

Payment providers face a defined deadline to block transactions after notice or risk joint tax liability.
