Brazilian committee approves bill requiring banks to monitor illegal betting payments

Regulation

Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies Finance and Taxation Committee approved a report on bill PL 4.044/2025 requiring financial and payment institutions to monitor suspicious transactions linked to unauthorised betting operators, according to the report. The proposal also requires information-sharing on identified fraud and provides for operational restrictions on institutions that repeatedly fail to comply. It will next go to the Constitution and Justice Committee and then the full chamber.

If enacted, the proposal would place monitoring and reporting duties on financial and payment firms handling betting transactions.
