Brazil Senate committee considers doubling betting tax to 24%
Brazil’s Senate Economic Affairs Committee could vote on 18 November on a bill that would raise the tax on sports betting from 12% to 24%, according to a media report. The bill’s rapporteur, Eduardo Braga, is due to present a revised opinion, which could postpone the vote; he has linked progress to measures against illegal betting operators. If approved by the committee, the proposal would go to the Chamber of Deputies unless eight senators appeal for a plenary vote.
The proposed rate increase would change the tax burden for betting operators in Brazil if enacted.
