Brazil’s SPA bars FIES debt beneficiaries from fixed-odds betting

Regulation

Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) issued rules barring beneficiaries of the FIES debt renegotiation programme from opening or using fixed-odds betting accounts, according to the report. Operators must check the SIGAP database at account registration and the first login each day; the rules also set procedures for notification, account suspension, returning funds and reviewing existing accounts. The report says operators have 10 days to implement the procedures and 15 days to check existing customers.

Operators must update account checks and handling procedures to comply with the new exclusion requirements and deadlines.
