Brazil lawmakers propose preserving sports betting as shutdown deadline approaches

Regulation

Brazilian lawmakers proposed amendments to preserve sports betting as Congress considers Provisional Measure No. 1,394/2026; at least 58 amendments had been submitted by 9 October, with four later withdrawn. The Secretariat of Prizes and Betting set 15 December as the final date for fixed-odds operators to cease activities, while the measure separately provides for federal authorisations to end on 25 October. An official report said authorities submitted 13,241 illegal betting websites for blocking in 12 days.
