Betpoint HR manager says AML training and institutional dialogue essential

Francesco Casamassima, human resources manager at Betpoint, told the anti-money-laundering forum in Milan that training and dialogue with institutions are essential for companies operating in gambling. He was speaking in a greeting to participants at the event, which took place on 22 October 2026.
Casamassima said Betpoint was among the first in the gambling sector to invest in training on anti-money-laundering, and that 10 professionals at the company had completed the Master Aml (Anti-Money Laundering), a course he said he had also taken. He said the company promotes round tables on money-laundering prevention in gambling at which operators, police forces and authorities sit at the same table.
He described the sector as arising from a decision by the State to take space from clandestine gambling and bring it within a system of concessions, rules and controls. Licensed companies, he said, identify every customer who intends to play, track deposits, bets and winnings, monitor anomalous behaviour, report suspicious transactions to the Unità di Informazione Finanziaria (Uif) and work daily with the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli and police forces.
On illegal gambling, Casamassima said each player who moves to the legal circuit is removed from a clandestine circuit that identifies no one, tracks nothing and feeds organised crime. He said legal gambling is a natural ally of the State and the authorities, and that responsible-gambling tools such as self-limitation and self-exclusion protect players.
Casamassima said the European AML package will change the regulatory framework substantially in less than a year, with a single regulation, a new authority and new obligations for the gambling sector. He said Betpoint expects clear guidance from the authorities and offered the company's commitment to play its part.
