Augusto Cury proposes high taxes on betting firms in Brazil

Regulation

Presidential candidate Augusto Cury advocated high taxes on sports-betting companies at a Brasília event on 18 August. He argued that online betting can cause dependence and divert household spending, and said higher taxation could discourage participation; he did not specify a tax rate.

Cury’s proposal would increase tax pressure on betting companies if adopted.
