AIEJA says Mexican regulated casinos support more than 60,000 direct jobs

Deals & M&A · SectorWire deskSource published 2 min read

Mexico's regulated casino industry generates more than 60,000 direct jobs across around 400 establishments in operation nationwide, according to sector estimates cited by AIEJA, the association of permit holders, operators and suppliers in the Mexican gambling industry. The association said it intends to publish verifiable information on the employment, investment and tax revenue the sector generates.

Ricardo Barraza, AIEJA's director of communication and institutional relations, set out the association's aim to circulate verifiable data on the sector's contribution. According to the association, the formal industry's direct jobs are supplemented by thousands of indirect jobs in technology, maintenance, security and food and beverage suppliers.

AIEJA said casinos are also a source of tax revenue for the Mexican state through the taxes set by current legislation, and that they drive investment in infrastructure, equipment and modernisation of venues. The association cited effects on local economies, saying direct and indirect jobs provide income and stability to thousands of families, and that permanent contracting of suppliers, recurring purchases of goods and services and relationships with small and medium-sized enterprises strengthen the productive fabric of the areas where venues operate.

The association described a value chain extending beyond the venues themselves, from food and consumer product supply to maintenance, technology, cleaning and security services, which it said contributes to the formal economy of communities. AIEJA restated its commitment to a productive industry that generates employment and investment and contributes to the country's economic development under the principles of responsible gambling and social commitment.
