AGCO and PointsBet Canada settle case with two-day suspension and independent audit

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and PointsBet Canada have reached a settlement that ends regulatory proceedings opened in February 2026 over the failure to report suspicious bets on NBA games linked to the Jontay Porter case. The agreement, announced on 20 October 2026, provides for a two-day suspension of PointsBet's Ontario gaming site and for additional measures to strengthen the operator's control systems.
Under the settlement, PointsBet has committed to an independent audit, assigned to an auditor and conducted under a methodology both approved in advance by the AGCO. The operator must also act to resolve any issues identified during the review. The effective implementation of the corrective measures will then be subject to independent validation, with the aim of establishing whether the controls adopted are adequate.
The Ontario regulator opened the proceedings in February 2026, when the AGCO notified PointsBet of a proposed suspension for not reporting suspicious betting activity relating to NBA player Jontay Porter. With the settlement reached, the regulatory proceedings are considered definitively closed.
