ADM extends slot disposal deadline to one year and narrows declarations

Regulation1 min read

In brief

  • Italy's ADM set the disposal period for decommissioned slot machines at one year, up from six months.
  • Owner declarations now cover only gaming boards; cabinet disposal records must be kept for five years.
  • The rules apply to machines decommissioned from 1 November 2026.

Italy's ADM has changed the mandatory procedure for disposing of and destroying decommissioned slot machines in a director's determination dated 27 October 2026, issued by the agency's games directorate. The period allowed for carrying out the required operations moves from six months to one year. The new provisions apply to slot machines decommissioned from 1 November 2026.

Declaration duties on the owner will cover only gaming boards, the area in which the agency's checks found a risk of unlawful use. The owner must still document the disposal and destruction, or other permitted handling, of cabinets, meaning slot machines without their boards, and keep that documentation for five years. The determination amends director's decree 38169/RU of 30 March 2018 and director's determination 72041/RU of 30 April 2018, including a change under which location declarations for decommissioned machines must be filed within seven days of the move rather than on the day of the move.

The ADM said the turnover of slot machines has been less frequent over the past two years. The longer period takes account of the time now needed for any relocation of the machines on the market.
