In brief
- Queensland extended The Star Gold Coast licence suspension deadline to 31 March 2027.

- The deadline was previously moved from March 2025 to September 2026.
The Queensland Government has extended the deadline for the suspension of The Star Gold Coast's casino licence to 31 March 2027, the government announced. The decision gives the operator an additional six months to complete outstanding remediation work, and the venue remains open under regulatory supervision.
The extension followed advice from Special Manager Nicholas Weeks, who said the casino group had made progress with its reform programme but that several priority issues remained unresolved. Weeks' appointment has also been extended, maintaining independent oversight, and The Star Brisbane continues to be supervised by an External Adviser over the same period.
Queensland Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said the government had set clear expectations for The Star and that the extension would allow the company to further demonstrate delivery on key remediation commitments under the agreement. She said expectations remained unchanged and that the government would act immediately if The Star failed to meet its obligations.
Frecklington thanked Weeks for his report and for continued independent oversight of The Star's progress on its remediation plan.
This is not the first deferral for the Gold Coast venue. Its suspension was previously rescheduled to September 2026 from March 2025, and the source notes that it had already been postponed on multiple earlier occasions.
Separately, The Star Sydney faced penalties of AU$10 million (US$7 million) from the New South Wales Independent Casino Commission earlier this year. The regulator also required a further AU$5 million to be set aside for financial crime controls.
