Italy's Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) has amended the rules governing slot machines after their decommissioning, according to an agency notice. The changes take effect on 1 November 2026, the ADM said.
Under the amended rules, owners of decommissioned machines will have one year rather than six months to complete post-decommissioning operations. The requirement for electronic tracking is limited to gaming boards, with other legal obligations unchanged, and new deadlines are set for reporting changes of location.
The ADM said the amendments are intended to simplify administrative requirements for owners of decommissioned machines and to improve monitoring of issues arising in the post-decommissioning phase. The agency said the changes fall within the framework of Article 1, paragraph 1050, of Law 205 of 27 December 2017, which assigned it to adopt a mandatory procedure for the disposal and destruction of decommissioned gaming machines to prevent possible unlawful use.
The procedure was introduced by directoral decree prot. no. 38169/RU of 30 March 2018 and implemented through directoral determination prot. no. 72041/RU of 30 April 2018, according to the notice. From 1 November 2026 the relevant applications in the reserved area are also updated. The ADM invited all affected operators to review the measure and to adjust their organisational and management procedures promptly.
