- York Regional Police charge two men in illegal gambling and extortion investigation
York Regional Police said they arrested and charged John Madeley and Thomas Phippard in an ongoing extortion investigation involving illegal gambling websites in Ontario. Police said the men gave customers access to betting sites on credit between January 2024 and October 2025, then used intimidation and threats to collect debts; Phippard faces three additional extortion and threat charges.
