Wisconsin governor bars state workers from using insider information on prediction markets

Regulation

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed an executive order prohibiting executive branch employees from using or disclosing non-public information to profit from prediction markets. The restrictions apply to more than 30,000 state employees; violations could lead to dismissal, referral to the Wisconsin Ethics Commission or criminal investigation. The order comes amid separate legal disputes over prediction-market platforms and sports-event contracts in Wisconsin.

Prediction-market operators face increased state scrutiny, while the order restricts employees’ use of confidential government information.
