VNLOK sues Meta in the Netherlands over illegal gambling adverts
The Dutch licensed online gambling operators’ association VNLOK filed a lawsuit against Meta in Amsterdam, alleging that Facebook and Instagram carry advertisements for illegal gambling sites. VNLOK said more than 90% of the gambling adverts it examined on Facebook were linked to illegal sites, and that Meta removed 11% of those identified in May and 15% of those identified in June. A parliamentary motion on platform responsibility was due for a vote, according to the report.
VNLOK’s lawsuit challenges Meta’s handling of advertisements linked to illegal gambling sites as lawmakers consider platform responsibility.
