VNLOK says unlicensed operators supplied most Dutch gambling ads on Meta

Enforcement & compliance

Dutch trade association VNLOK said 94% to 97% of gambling advertisements reaching users in the Netherlands came from unlicensed operators during May and June. Its review found that 96.5% of selected advertisements in May and 93.7% in June were illegal; VNLOK has begun legal proceedings against Meta and filed a complaint with the European Commission.

The findings and legal action raise compliance and advertising-moderation risks for platforms and gambling operators targeting the Netherlands.
