US representatives introduce bill to restrict sensitive event contracts
Representatives Blake Moore and Salud Carbajal introduced the Event Contract Enforcement Act in the US House on 6 March. The bill would empower the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to prohibit contracts tied to terrorism, assassination, war, gaming or illegal activity, while allowing states that permit sports-related contracts to opt out of the gaming prohibition’s enforcement.
The proposal could change the federal rules governing event contracts that overlap with sports betting.
