US lawmakers consider higher federal sports betting taxes

Regulation

US lawmakers are weighing changes to federal sports betting taxes, according to the report. A Budget Lab model estimated that a 10% tax could raise $182bn over FY2027–2036 while reducing bets by 10%; a proposed $0.05-per-transaction tax was modelled to raise $1.3bn over the same period.

A higher federal tax could change operators’ tax exposure and betting volumes across US markets.
