Summary
The UK Gambling Commission has reminded online operators to comply with Licence Condition 17, which requires customer identity verification before play. The regulator said verification should ideally take place at registration rather than at withdrawal, and flagged shortcomings including incomplete names, nicknames and business addresses being used. It said more than a quarter of complaints to its Contact Centre concern such issues.
Why it matters
Operators must verify customer identity before play under Licence Condition 17, ideally at registration.
