UK remote gaming duty rises to 40% as compliance costs increase

Regulation

The UK’s Remote Gaming Duty is due to rise to 40% on 1 April 2026, according to the report. HM Treasury’s 29 January consultation on Gambling Commission fees includes options for increases of 20% or 30%. The report also cites Gambling Commission data showing online gross gambling yield of £1.54 billion in a quarter of 2024 to 2025, up 21% year on year.

The proposed fee increases and higher duty could affect licensed operators’ costs and online casino margins in the UK.
