Tinubu rejects Nigeria’s proposed central gaming bill amid state-federal dispute
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rejected the Central Gaming Bill late last year, arguing it conflicted with a 2024 Supreme Court decision that returned gambling regulation to the states. Logifuture chief marketing officer Ben Cove called for regulators to align their approach; he said Bet9ja remained operational and held licences in states that offer them. The dispute between Bet9ja and Enugu State’s regulator is continuing in court, after the state sealed the operator’s outlets earlier this month.
Operators face continued uncertainty over whether gambling regulation rests with federal or state authorities.
