Thai campaigners urge parties to drop lottery pledges before election
The Anti-Gambling Campaign Foundation urged Thai political parties to withdraw lottery-related promises ahead of the 8 February election, Secretary-General Thanakorn Komkrit said. It said 27.5 million people bought government lottery tickets in 2023 and another 22 million bought illegal tickets; Pheu Thai has pledged nine daily prizes of THB1 million if elected.
The proposals could affect lottery policy and the market amid campaigners’ concerns about participation and gambling harm.
