Spain requires payment checks before online gambling withdrawals

Regulation

Royal Decree 813/2026 takes effect in Spain on 28 October 2026, requiring online gambling operators to verify that payment methods belong to the registered account holder, as set out in the decree. Existing customers may deposit and gamble during a six-month transition, but cannot withdraw winnings before verification; operators must close accounts that remain unverified and report activations and closures to the DGOJ.

Operators must update payment checks and account processes while withholding unverified customers’ winnings during the transition.
