Spain approves mandatory lobby register and public-sector contact rules

Regulation

Spain's government has approved a decree-law establishing a public, mandatory register for interest groups and rules for their contacts with public officials, according to reports. The rules cover influence activities affecting the state administration and its institutional public sector; unregistered groups generally cannot hold meetings or other contacts involving such activity. The decree-law also sets out exceptions, including a limited route for groups that have not yet applied to register.

Gambling businesses engaging with Spain's state administration may need to register before carrying out covered lobbying activity.
