South African Responsible Gambling Foundation calls for unified harm-reduction rules
Sibongile Simelane, executive director of the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation, called for a unified regulatory framework for player protection in South Africa, according to the report. She said the foundation’s programme provides counselling, treatment and psycho-evaluations, while inconsistent operator measures can allow vulnerable players to move between providers. The foundation works with the National Gambling Board, provincial authorities, operators and community organisations.
A shared framework could address gaps when player-protection controls differ between operators.
