South Africa’s Cabinet approved King Tembinkosi Bonakele as chair of the National Lotteries Commission Board on 1 July, with Mpho Sonia Mosing appointed as a board member. The appointments remain subject to qualification checks and security clearances; Bonakele succeeds Barney Pityana.
The appointments will shape governance of the body that regulates South Africa’s lottery sector and distributes grants.

The British Horseracing Authority appointed Simon Cox as independent non-executive chair, reportedly. Cox will take up the role on 1 October, replacing interim chair David Jones. The BHA said the appointment followed a recruitment process overseen by an interim Nominations Committee.
Reportedly, Allwyn UK has appointed Phil Walker as interim chief executive. Walker previously worked as an executive at William Hill.
It was reported that OAB-RJ appointed João Rachid da Motta to lead its lottery gaming commission until 2027. His agenda includes sector regulation and Rio’s betting advertising prohibition.
Allwyn UK is restructuring its leadership, creating social impact, marketing and digital roles while phasing out three executive positions, the company said. Alastair Ruxton will become Director of Social Impact, Stephen Taylor will start as interim Chief Marketing Officer on 17 November, and recruitment for the Chief Digital Officer role is ongoing. Mark Smith will remain as a technology strategy adviser until June 2027; Richard Dawkins and Sarah Venning will also leave the company.
The company is adding three senior positions: a Director of Social Impact, a Chief Marketing Officer and a Chief Digital Officer. Under the restructuring, three C-level positions will be removed.
Bragg Gaming Group appointed Morten Tonnesen interim chief executive, with responsibility for day-to-day operations and reporting to the board. Matevž Mazij, who has led the company since August 2023, moves immediately to a strategic adviser role supporting the board and key stakeholders.
