Singer Anderson Neiff promotes Betaya betting site despite Brazil ad ban

Singer Anderson Neiff, who has 12 million Instagram followers, promoted online betting platforms on his social media accounts on 22 October, a month after Brazil's federal government banned betting advertising in September 2026, citing Poder360. The promotion appears to contravene Medida Provisória 1.394 of 2026, signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on 25 September. Poder360, which first reported the case, found that the Betaya site promoted by Neiff remained online and was accepting new registrations for online betting.
The measure prohibits the operation, offering, intermediation and advertising of fixed-odds betting in Brazil, including online games. More than 13,000 sites have been blocked, among them 188 that held authorisation to operate in the country. Because it is a provisional measure, the text still requires analysis by the National Congress. Companies in the sector are contesting the measure at the Supreme Federal Court, and Justice Luiz Fux is expected to decide on the case after the second round of the elections.
It was reported that this is not the first time Neiff has promoted irregular betting platforms. In August 2025, the singer used Instagram stories to promote a platform that was not on the list of operators authorised by the Ministry of Finance, and the posts were removed from his profile the following day. On the same day as the promotion, Neiff took part in a meeting with President Lula during the head of state's visit to Pernambuco; the meeting brought together artists from the Recife brega scene and was arranged by federal deputy Pedro Campos (PSB-PE). According to the Planalto's Secom, the aim was to present the artists to the president and thank him for sanctioning the law that established the National Brega Day. On that occasion, the singer responded to a follower's comment that he would lose fans for having published a video alongside Lula, saying he was neither "left nor right".
Poder360 sought comment from Anderson Neiff's press office and from the Betaya site, but had received no response by the time of publication.
