Rio de Janeiro bars betting adverts on public outdoor spaces

Regulation

Rio de Janeiro city hall has barred sports betting adverts in public outdoor spaces under a municipal rule established by Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere. Advertising agencies have ten days to comply or face fines; adverts inside private venues remain permitted, while open events such as Copacabana’s New Year’s Eve celebration lose external sponsorships.

The rule restricts where betting companies can advertise and sets a compliance deadline for agencies.
