Rio and Belo Horizonte ban betting adverts in municipal spaces

Regulation

Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte have issued decrees restricting betting advertising on municipal property and at public events. The Rio decree gives advertisers and advertising companies ten days to remove or adapt existing displays before fines take effect; Belo Horizonte’s rules include a 100-metre buffer around specified public facilities and give municipal bodies 15 working days to review contracts. The measures do not prohibit betting operations or advertising on digital media, television or private events.

Operators and advertising businesses may lose access to municipal advertising locations and publicly backed events in both cities.
