Brazil’s Receita Federal reported collecting R$4.586 billion in taxes from sports betting companies between January and April 2026. The total was 99.14% higher than the R$2.283 billion collected in the same period of 2025; the tax rate is scheduled to rise from 12% to 13% in 2026, then to 14% in 2027 and 15% in 2028.
The reported receipts and scheduled rate increases affect the tax burden on operators in Brazil.

Brazil collected R$8.75bn in gambling and betting taxes between January and July 2026, according to Receita Federal figures. Receipts increased 76.86% against the same period in 2025. The total includes betting, Caixa lotteries and associated federal taxes.
It was reported that Brazil’s regulated betting sector generated federal tax receipts exceeding €1.15bn in the first half of 2026. Lawmakers were considering proposals that could alter the market before October’s general election.
Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service reported that online betting companies paid about R$5.8bn in taxes between January and May 2026. The total was 85% above the R$3.1bn collected in the same period a year earlier; May receipts were R$1.3bn, down from R$1.4bn in May 2025.
Reportedly, Brazil’s federal government received BRL4.17bn in betting taxes during Q1. The Federal Revenue Service supplied the figures using official tax collection records covering January to March.
A Quaest poll found that 16% of respondents who were optimistic about Brazil's future cited regulation of betting and social media as a source of hope under President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. That group represented 44% of respondents, making the combined issue about 7% of the full sample; the poll did not separate betting from social-media regulation. The survey interviewed 2,004 people from 30 October to 2 November.
