Pix transaction counts fall 10% after Brazil bans online sports betting

Regulation

Pix transaction counts in Brazil fell about 10% between 26 and 28 September after publication of the measure banning online sports betting, according to Central Bank data cited in the report. The daily declines were 11% on Saturday, 12% on Sunday and 7.4% on Monday, measured against the average for the corresponding days in the previous four weeks. The figures count transactions, not the money transferred.

The reported decline and fintech exposure indicate payment-sector effects being discussed around the betting ban.
