Piia Schults challenges dismissal over Estonia gambling tax drafting error

Regulation

Piia Schults says she is considering court action against the Estonian government after her dismissal over an error in amendments to the Gambling Tax Act. The drafting mistake omitted games of chance from the 2026 tax base, which the report says put €4m in revenue at risk; remote gambling operators later paid €1.4m voluntarily, and lawmakers restored the 5.5% tax from 1 March.

The dispute concerns accountability for a tax-law error and the treatment of remote gambling revenue in Estonia.
