Omsk police charge man over stolen funds used for online gambling

Regulation

Omsk police said they charged a 50-year-old man with theft after he allegedly took a friend’s phone, transferred 100,000 roubles from a sports betting wallet and spent the money on online casino bets. Police said the suspect admitted the theft and was remanded in custody. The report also described a separate proposal by Russia’s finance ministry to legalise online casinos and tax licensed operators at 30% annually.

The ministry’s proposal could change the legal and tax framework for online casinos in Russia.
