Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has introduced mandatory deposit limits for certain online players under 25 as their engagement increases. Players can set daily, weekly or monthly caps, OLG said; the measure is intended to strengthen early use of safer-gambling tools.
Operators serving affected players must require a deposit cap as engagement rises.

Ontario has agreed with MGE Niagara Entertainment to end its exclusive casino rights in the Niagara Region, reportedly announced on 18 August. MGE will continue operating Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara, while the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. plans to begin a procurement process later this year for potential new operators. Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati welcomed the change; NDP MPP Wayne Gates called for the region to be involved in the process.
Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) says it licenses or registers operators, suppliers, retailers and gaming employees across lottery and gambling sectors, including online gambling. Its standards cover casinos, charitable gaming centres, online operators and lottery retail, while compliance work includes monitoring, inspections and audits.
Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario says lottery retailers must follow sales standards, including restrictions that took effect on 1 June 2012. Retailers must not sell tickets to people who appear intoxicated or to specified gaming, retail, supplier and AGCO personnel.
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation president and CEO Duncan Hannay said the organisation is moving towards more tailored, proactive safer-gambling measures. OLG has created a dedicated Safer Gambling team and is working with iGaming Ontario on a centralised self-exclusion system that is progressing towards launch.
iGaming Ontario has launched BetGuard, a centralised self-exclusion service covering regulated online gambling sites in Ontario. Residents aged 19 and older can choose exclusion periods of six months, one year, five years or a custom term; once activated, an exclusion cannot be shortened or cancelled. The service includes the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s Proline platform.
